The cool thing about rock stars is, they don’t have to
age if we don’t want them to. Their music and their pictures can freeze them in
a time period that can stay a fan’s favorite.
“Yes, we're still five little people with a noisy attitude.” -- Angus Young
This drawing of Angus Young of AC/DC is from a photo from
the mid-1970s, during the time of the “Powerage” album. Obviously the show was at a point where most
of Angus’ schoolboy uniform had been shed. It’s all sweat, shorts and sneer.
“Style, I didn't
think we had any! I just plug in and hit the thing really hard. That's my
style... or lack of one!"
He’s wearing a big-ass 1962 Gibson Les Paul SG, almost as
big as diminutive Angus himself. Little guy, big sound. High voltage rock and
roll. The riffs he and brother Malcolm have kicked out over 40-plus years would
build a mountain and then level it.
“We're a rock group. We're noisy, rowdy, sensational and weird.”
Angus is now 57 years old. He still dresses as a
schoolboy on stage. He has a net worth of $140 million, according to Celebrity Net
Worth. It’s a look that still works for him.
Grow up? We all do, at some point, but it’s nice to have a
place to go that’s not so cerebral. Consider
“Ballbreaker.” “Hard as a Rock.” “Let’s Get It Up.” “Sink the Pink.” “Shake
Your Foundations.” “Whole Lotta Rosie.” “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
Theme music for young lust. Even if you are 50-something.
“I'm sick to death of people saying we've made 11 albums
that sounds exactly the same. In fact, we've made 12 albums that sound exactly
the same.”
So, stay Young.
About that “Powerage” album from 1977? Of course I have and prefer it on vinyl – frozen in time.
